Did you get electronics for Christmas?
Dec 27, 2010
If you did you know how much packaging comes with these items. You can take all the packaging back to the store in which they were purchased and they will recycle for you.
Also if you are careful when unwrapping just fold your packaging up neatly and re-use for the next holiday season - not only is this great for the environment but great on your wallet!

Lunch without litter
Nov 30, 2010
An easy way to reduce the amount of garbage is to pack a lunch in reusable containers and in a reusable lunch bag . Also instead of a paper napkin, opt for a cloth napkin or washcloth which can then be washed rather then tossed in the garbage. Fresh fruits and homemade foods such as sandwiches are excellent and healthier alternatives to the prepackaged foods and snacks, and will help eliminate even more garbage going into the landfill.

A simple way to reduce your impact on the environment.

On your weekly errands try and organize your trips in such a way that you can reduce the amount of trips you may take in a week.

If your drycleaner and post office are in the same location where you buy your groceries save those three tasks to do all at the same time.

Programming your Thermostat  - Save energy by programming your thermostat
Nov 15/2010
A programmable thermostat will keep your home at the appropriate temperature all year. For example, while you are at work, you can reduce the heat, programming the thermostat to kick back on right before you arrive home. Then, the thermostat can lower again during the night for a more comfortable sleep. The heat can kick back on before work if you prefer, then lower during the day (if no one is home).

Laundry Detergent
Oct 15, 2010
Making your own laundry detergent not only saves money, but is less harmful to the environment when using natural ingredients.

It takes about 15 minutes to make your own homemade liquid laundry detergent using all natural ingredients that you can purchase from your grocery store. Here is what you'll need:

Ingredients:
3.1 oz bar Ivory soap
1 cup 20 Mule Team Borax
½ cup Arm and Hammer Washing Soda
Water

Tools:
5 Gallon container, Knife, Pot large enough to hold 5 cups of water, Long stirring stick/spoon

Instructions:
Shave the soap into small strips and place in the pot with 5 cups of water. Bring the water just shy of a boil and stir until the soap is completely melted. When the soap is just about melted, pour 3 gallons of hot water into the 5-gallon container and let it sit until the soap in the pot is totally melted. Once all of the soap shavings are melted, pour the mixture into the 5-gallon container and stir.
